Wind Turbine and Wind Generator Components for Small Wind Turbines

At ARDG we are interested in helping the environment and want to make a contribution by offering Wind Turbine and Wind Generator components.

Many people want to harness wind power with a home wind turbine. And it is possible to build wind turbines of wind generators at home with little expense.  However there are few companies producing precision engineered components for the home wind turbine builder. By putting some of our engineer’s time into the design of a few key components, we feel that we can contribute to the environment by offering products that match any available on the market.

Look here in the future for information on how to build a wind turbine and a small wind turbine kit.

Refer below for our custom built wind turbine hub and diodes for DIY wind turbines and solar panels.

This is a hub for mounting blades to a small DC motor/generator such as an Ametek with a 5/8” shaft. With 12 sets of blade holes (at 15/16 on center), this hub gives the builder choices for blade design and quantity. Arbor is not included.

This hub is intentionally designed to be lightweight and durable. Aluminum is a lightweight, corrosion resistant, and strong choice for a wind turbine hub.  This material is several orders of magnitude stronger than your blades.

Why would you want a lightweight hub?  Remember that your blade system is a spinning disc that has "rotational inertia".  The higher the moment of inertia (the more mass) the harder it is to accelerate that disc.

Building a Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT)?  Use an Air X compatible hole pattern for 2, 3, 4, or 6 blades. Use multiple mounting holes to mount your handmade wood blades to an Ametek or compatible motor.

Building a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT)?  Use this hub as a base plate for supports of up to 12 vertical vanes.

We have a application note, Diode Applications for Solar and Wind, for use of diodes in DIY solar and wind applications.  Purchases of diodes will include a printed copy of the pamphlet.
